Koning manufactures the Koning Vera (also called Koning Vera Breast CT or KBCT), the latest version of our breast CT device. Vera introduces a less than 10 second scanning time per breast. It is a multifunctional device capable of 3D guided biopsy, and does so at radiation dose levels comparable to diagnostic mammography.
Koning has been developing cone-beam CT technology for over two decades. As the winner of multiple awards including the 2016 Frost and Sullivan New Innovation Award in Breast Imaging, and as holder of over 120 patents globally, Koning has developed technology to bring a better breast imaging solution to women around the world.
The Koning Vera (KBCT) is designed to provide clinicians with advanced 3D imaging of breast tissue, offering a new perspective in visualization and evaluation. By delivering high-resolution images without compression, the technology aims to support physicians in making more informed decisions across the continuum of care. Our goal is to expand access to tools that may enhance early detection, diagnosis, and treatment planning, with the ultimate vision of contributing to improved patient experiences and outcomes.
Five-year survival for stage 0-1 is 99%. In April 2025, it was reported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that the 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer was 99% when diagnosed in the localized stage. This drops to 31% if it has spread to distant parts of the body. Also, it was reported by the NCI that invasive breast cancer can be undetected in 6% to 46% of examinations, often due to high breast density or perceptual errors. In addition, it has been reported within the educational review published by Insights into Imaging in January 2026 that between 10% and 30% of breast cancers are misdiagnosed or missed.
By design, the technology used within the Koning System allows for the identification of lesions as small as 2 mm and calcifications as small as 200 microns without breast compression. This allows the Radiologist to view breast tissue in true 3D slices from any angle, effectively eliminating the tissue superimposition (overlapping structures) that can often hide cancers in early stages.
Upgrade breast care with high-resolution, 3D imaging that supports better detection, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Advanced 3D imaging designed to improve detection, diagnosis, and patient care.
Clinicians value clearer 3D imaging, better insights, and improved patient care.
My job as a breast imaging radiologist is to find and diagnose breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. We have many tools at our disposal, many of them currently have significant limitations. Koning’s revolutionary dedicated breast CT imaging device has the potential to deliver a paradigm shift to the world of breast imaging. This new tool allows for compression-free, pain-free imaging that is not only more comfortable for the patient but offers superior image quality due to truly 3-dimensional imaging.
As a fellowship trained breast radiologist, practicing in independent and hospital-based breast centers for the past twenty years, I am someone who values the amazing screening and diagnostic capabilities of mammography, tomosynthesis, high quality ultrasound, and MRI to find and diagnose early breast cancer. Despite that, my experience has always dictated that none of those techniques are capable of being the “ideal” tool for doing my job.
This technology will save lives. Full stop. I encourage everyone to join Koning in it’s march to revolutionize the healthcare industry and save the lives of millions of women through early imaging and detection of a preventable and treatable disease that claims the lives of too many each and every year.
Radiation dose of Koning Vera was measured to be in the same range as diagnostic mammograms. KBCT biopsy imaging dose was measured as a 50% reduction when compared to stereotactic biopsies.

After rigorous study, Koning Vera obtained FDA PMA approval for both breast CT and 3D-guided biopsy. This is the highest bar of approval for the FDA.

Effective 1/2021, the American Medical Association provided Breast CT with 6 dedicated CPT codes. The codes are now being accepted by both public and private payers.
